shadow demon

The shadow demon is Venger's spy and reports to him on the heroes' progress. It speaks with the obsequious voice of a man and looks like a bat-winged silhouette with below the waist tapering off into a wispy tail instead of having legs. The shadow demon is normally intangible but can become solid.

In the book Backward Magic there is a place called Shadows Edge populated by other shadow demons.
